Primary Girls Match Report 5/09/2020

Once again, great conditions at Lighthouse Oval for the Primary Girls’ soccer match. The Reds and Blues played  the first game of a two week competition and the result was a win for the Blue team, who gained an early lead. The Reds put up a non-stop effort, scoring a couple of goals but time ran out and they will have to wait until next Saturday’s game to even the score.

Coach and supporters were impressed with some great team work and sound passing as well as solid defence by both teams.

There was gallant work done by those who played goalies: Aanya and Georgie for Reds and Penny and Anahera for the Blues, with many shots saved.

Positives for Red individual players were: Aanya - active attack, Alana - perfect position, Olivia -midfield marking, Amelia - determined defence, Georgie -super saves, Matilda -mighty marking, Iluka - intense intercepts, Jasmine - non-stop action.

Positives for Blue players were: Abby - complete control, Anahera - forward force,

Jaya - obstacles for opposition, Evie -clever crosses, Skye - regular ‘run aways’,

Aurelia - consistent cover, Penny - action plus, Charli - midfield marking.

Super support by Oscar and Cooper was much appreciated.

Many thanks to our referees who did a great job and to those who helped after the game with returning equipment.

Two weeks until the final game on the 19th September so just two training sessions remain. Friday 4:00 p.m. at the oval.

             Saturday’s game 10:00 as usual.

Joke for the week: Why did the soccer ball quit the sport?

It was tired of being kicked around!

U9 White Round 10 Match Report

The U9 milton boys played a stunning game at Huskisson oval against Huskisson Seagulls white. The boys ran back and forth across the oval with both teams going for long kicks down the wing and reaching kicks to the sky. The pep talks must’ve gone well because the end scores were 7-1 having the Milton boys win.

Headband boys (Raf, Xavier, Milo) made a big effort.

The Huskies sent the ball way into the bushes almost reaching the highway.

Great teamwork from Ryan and Raf passing in and out to the goal.

Milo, Mason and Xavier all took part in scoring an amazing goal.

Jack and Saxon both kept the pressure on for the Huskies.

Seb and Saxon had a great teamwork connection and scored a great goal.

Lachlan made great attempts at scoring for Tom and Ryan with their strategic passes and focussed attitude.

The goal scorers were Seb, Milo, Mason, Raf and Saxon.

U9 White Round 9 Match Report

G'day U9,s parents and supporters, Round 9. The undefeated and mighty Milton - Ulladulla football club has triumphed once again. There opponents the Sussex Inlet football club played a strong game and put in a valent effort. However  with the MUFC,s constant attacking play and outstanding passing of the ball the sustained pressure was to much for their opponent. The score reflected this great achievement with a 7 to nil whitewash. Congratulations to all the players and coaches on a well played game. Go the Panthers !!!

Primary Girls Match Report 29/08/2020

In near perfect conditions at Lighthouse Oval last Saturday, the Primary Girls played a well fought game, with both sides never giving up. The first half of the game saw Rosie and Iluka in goals and both performed very well to keep the nets free.

Forwards for the Reds were: Georgie, Charli and Amelia, while for the Blues, playing in the forward positions were Milla, Aanya and Jaya.

Red team backs were Penny and Abby. Anahera and Skye played across the midfield.

Blue team backs were Alana and Evie. Matilda played across the midfield.

At half time, score was 0-0 and with changes to goalies, the girls eagerly ran on, keen to get their team ahead.

There were plenty of opportunities by both sides with shots hitting the post, going over the top, but mostly saved by clever goal-keeping. The Red team showed good control of the ball, consistent passing and clever covering and defence. The Blue team hassled the attackers, made long runs and covered their positions well.

The referee was kept fit with play see-sawing from one end to the other and the girls appreciated his tips during the game.

Finally, after non-stop pressure by both sides, the whistle was blown and the score remained nil all, a very fitting result.

Thank you to the referee and to those who helped with equipment after the game.

September games will see girls determining their preferred positions and depending on numbers, a two-week competition may be played.

The Primary Girls wish good luck to all Panther teams playing semis, finals and hopefully grand-finals over the coming weeks.

Remember training on Friday 4:00.

Joke for the week: Why was Cinderella so bad at Soccer?

Because she had a pumpkin for a coach!

U11A Black Round 10 Match Report

On Saturday, 29th, August, Milton 11A black, sitting 3rd on the table took on 2nd place Huskisson. This top of the table clash didn’t disappoint. Milton starting off with early pressure, creating a few chances on goal.

Milton conceded a free kick just outside the box with Husky’s shot just going over the bar.

Huskisson kept the pressure on Milton but some solid defence by Jacob denied any threat on the Milton goal. Tully was also strong at the back winning 1 on 1 tackles and clearing the ball safely away all game.

Nixon showed great ball control and speed with some breakaways down the sideline creating some shots that were matched by the Husky keeper.

Finally the break came minutes before halftime when Kristian chased the ball down to keep it in on the sideline, and put in a low cross finding the feet of Mitchell in the box to knock it into the back of the net. Milton 1 Huskisson 0.

The second half kicked off and the action continued straight away with both sides pushing to score. Huskisson had their attempts on goal matched by some great saves by our amazing goal keeper Jordan.

Huskisson’s continued pressure finally paid off with a nice shot hitting the back of net bringing sides level, 1-1.

It only took a few minutes before Milton took the lead again through Nixon scoring a great individual goal, putting the ball pass the keeper inside the far post. Milton 2 Huskisson 1.

Huskisson responded straight away and brought game level yet again. Milton created some last minute chances to try and take back the lead but the final whistle brought the game to an end, final score 2-2.

All the Milton players had a fantastic game, playing great as a team. They now prepare for their semi final game next week. Good luck!

Primary Girls Match Report 22/08/2020

Thirteen players braved the cooler conditions for the Primary Girls’ game at Lighthouse Oval on Saturday, 22nd August. Many ran on wearing warm tops and hoods but with both teams soon making runs and having shots at goal, it wasn’t long before long sleeved clothes were discarded and the game was in full flight.

Reds and  Blues both made attacking runs and had chances to score but no success.

Play settled and there was more thoughtful passing and teamwork by both sides.

Goalies for the first half, Milla and Amelia, made clever saves and gave their teams good opportunities when they sent the ball back into play by long goal kicks.

Second half goalies, Matilda, Evie and later Skye, continued with many great saves when under pressure.

Referee, Lindsay, ran two halves so the girls experienced time in the forward line and in the back line. Abby played across the middle, first for Blues and then for Reds, doing a great job with her long kicks and scoring.

Red team players were:

Aurelia - a close shot and good clearing. Milla - penetrating runs and scoring.

Charli - clever defensive stops. Iluka - good cover and clearing. Evie - confident hassling and a great cross. Skye - long attacking runs and shots.

Blue team players were:

Jasmine - speedy runs and clever lifts. Amelia - quick touches and scoring. Olivia - strong clearing kicks and forward pressure. Rosie - great crosses and team passes.

Matilda - fearless defence. Anahera - running to the ball and accurate crosses.

Well done all players and while the result was a win for the Reds, 4-3, it was a fair and well fought game, which could easily have gone the other way.

Next week’s game will see other girls playing goalie positions and all players can now begin to think about the position that is their strongest.

Thanks again to the club officials who set the field up and to those who remove and return equipment after the game. Thank you Lindsay for refereeing. Final thanks to all who have been adhering to the current COVID restrictions re parent supporters at the game. Last but not least, good luck to all club teams for their remaining games of the season.

Remember training is on Friday at 4:00, our game is on the usual time of 10:00 on the usual field.

Joke for the week: What are successful forwards always trying to do?

                                 Reach their goals!

U11A Black Round 9 Match Report

Today's strong August winds continued to bellow, as the under 11A's took to the field in Shoalhaven Heads, taking on the team that are ranked number one on the ladder. Our team were enthusiastic, and energetic. We had a few shots, then saved a few shots, and by half time we were holding our own,at nill all. Second half came and we saw our opponents score the first goal of the game. Not too long after that we seized an opportunity, which brought the score to a steady one all. Following on,we saw the heads seal the deal, and score the winning goal of the game, with a 2-1 win over us. Both sides put in a solid effort, showed good sportsmanship and determination in a challenging game.

U11A Black Round 7 Match Report (catch-up game)

The soft pitch and cold windy conditions for the home team Illaroo did not prove to be an advantage for them today. It was a physical game and a close contest in the first half with Sonny making a great save to deny them taking an early lead. Callum, David and Nate all scored to make it a close 3-2 at half time.

After Coach Kelly gave the team an inspiring half time pep talk, the Panthers took complete control of the game and overwhelmed their opponents with a 7 - 0 second half score line. All in time for a late arrival from Coach Paul! Now they really started playing as a team and attacking the ball. Archie scored an impressive and well deserved hat-trick. Jordy enjoyed being out of goals and showed his talent out on the field with a goal, and David scored a cracker from a long range free kick. Tight passing and an excellent cross set up Bailey for his second goal in as many days. Jacob, Mitchell, Bede and David were resolute in defence in keeping the opposition goalless in the second half. Christian, Bailey, Sonny and Callum dominated the mid-field and provided great service to the forward line. Tully scored her first goal for the season right on full time, to ice the game and bring the final score 10 - 2. This result puts U11 Black in 3rd position with two rounds to go before the semis, where they face off against the top two teams.

U9 White Round 7 Match Report

Today’s game against St Georges Basin Dragons (Red) proved to be the most difficult and challenging game to date against a well-structured opposition.

The game began with a handful of chances with the opening goal to Sebastian on the back of good lead up play from both Saxon and Raff. The remainder of the first half was an arm wrestle with desperate defending from the likes of Mason, Milo, Lachlan and Xavier whilst the front three always looked dangerous on the counter attack. Just before half time a great through ball from Milo set Ryan to goals who calmly scored past the keeper to make it 2 - nil at half time.

The second half began like the first with Milton dominating possession and after a good passage of ball movement Sebastian was able to score from distance to make it 3 - nil. Milton displayed great character in defence and showed how difficult they are to breakdown, which included a great one handed save from Milo to prevent St Georges Basin getting on the scoreboard. Late in the game and from a corner the hard working Jack was quickest to pounce to a loose ball to make it 4 - nil, which was the final score.

The boys have to be commended today for the character and attitude they had in defence. They showed resilience and fight to ensure that they don’t concede, it was a great team victory. They have developed throughout the year and credit to Jon and the coaching staff for their hard work as well as commitment.

Primary Girls Match Report 15/08/2020

Lucky, lucky lucky after a night of rainfall, the Primary girls were able to play their game, in on/off drizzle, at Lighthouse Oval last Saturday, 15th August. Thirteen keen players trained on Friday afternoon and played a brief match in case Saturday's game didn't eventuate.

However, Saturday morning, saw fourteen girls, with spirit and enthusiasm, front up in doubtful weather, keen to run on the park.

Reds were Milla, Anahera, Abby, Rosie, Alana, Aurelia and Penny.

Blues were Georgie, Jaya, Charli, Iluka, Evie, Jasmine and Olivia.

Both teams ran on in response to the referee's whistle. Many thanks to Miffy for her work.

Blues went straight into attack, with Abby making a great save. Reds retaliated with a great shot, saved by Olivia. Not long after Reds scored their first goal, score 1 nil.

Blues then attacked with three shots at goal, all of which were unlucky not to go in.

Play see-sawed for a while, which then saw the girls removing their jumpers and hoodies after consistent effort by both teams. Play resumed and Blues quickly evened the score 1 all. Reds applied pressure and were then rewarded with three quick goals to lead 4-1.

Blues' 'Never say die' attitude saw a 'left footer' shot successful, then another shot found the back of the net bringing the scores to 4-3.

Five minutes remaining, last chance for Blues, and with the power of positive thinking, they applied the pressure and scored, making the game a tie! It was an exciting match for all and especially so as the girls were happy to have played a full match before the rain began to fall.

With just six games to their credit this very different season, the Primary Girls are to be commended for their skills and approach to the game and all are looking forward to the second half of the season.

Once again, many thanks to all those supporting the girls ... club officials, parents, spectators and those removing nets and posts after the game.

Training again on Friday at 4:00, focusing on defence. The game on Saturday is on the same field at 10am.

Joke for the week: Why did the soccer player bring string to her game?

So she could tie the score!

U11A Black Round 5 Match Report

Congratulations to the team for round five.

Even though it was pouring down with rain the team went out and played an outstanding game.

Everyone on the team put in an excellent effort both in defence and attack. They all seemed to enjoy the wet conditions with a few doing some knee slides.

I would like to thank the team for turning out and playing like true champions.

Also thanks to Paul, Kelly and all those who showed up to support the team.

Ladies Second Grade Round 5 Match Report

Lets start this report by making sure you are all aware how damn cold it was! The wind was strong and bone chilling for the ladies as they lined up to play Sussex at their ground.

We were facing the undefeated leaders of the comp and man did we start strong. Great defence by our back line and some awesome work in the middle from Megan Jones, Lenny Emery and Pearl Delian kept the Seahawks at bay for the whole first half.

The wind decided to add a little more sting by assisting Sussex in scoring a goal very early in the second half. This didn’t dampen the spirits of the ladies as they kept matching their opponents in skill and physicality.

Sadly another goal for Sussex sealed the deal as we went down 2-0. The score did not reflect the mammoth effort from the squad. Considering the reputation Sussex has being undefeated and top of the table we showed them not to underestimate us southerners and that we are a force to be reckoned with. We get a second go at taking a win from Sussex next Thursday for our double header. It will be a great game and I can’t wait to see the girls shine.

Primary Girls Match Report 1/08/2020

The Primary Girls did it again! Eighteen girls played in brilliant August weather last Saturday at Lighthouse Oval in a very entertaining match for their enthusiastic spectators.

The game began in fast pace with the Blues on fire and scoring early. It looked as though the game would be theirs as further goals were scored by their forwards after brilliant defence by their mids, backs and goalie.

However, with a number of goals behind, the Reds retaliated and after a couple of runs and wide shots, they were rewarded with a couple of successes.

With twenty minutes remaining and still trailing, the Red team put the Blues under pressure and attacked with determination to quickly score further goals. The game was excellent proof that

'Quitters never win and winners never quit !'

Well done to all the girls, whose efforts at training are paying off in match play.

Reds were Iluka, Amelia and Charli on the right, Matilda, Georgie and Rosie on the left and Jaya, Abby and Aurelia playing centre and having turns in the goalie position.

Blues were Evie, Penny and Skye on the right, Milla, Anahera and Aanya on the left and Olivia, Jasmine and Alana in the centre and taking turns as goalie.

First time goalies showed confidence and made some excellent saves, while coach Gwen was pleased with greater determination in tackles and better position work.

Thanks to our referee and net removers as well as to the club officials for their work.

Fingers crossed for decent weather for Friday's training at 4:00 p.m, and 10:00am for the match on Saturday (on the usual field).

Soccer Joke of the week:

Why can't Cinderella play Soccer?

Because she always runs away from the ball!

U9 White Round 5 Match Report

Cracker of a morning. Sun shining, beanies away and no jacket required! You could be mistaken for thinking the MUFC U9’s White team was an U11’s team. With the boy’s ability to kick with accuracy and strength, and passing like seasoned players from the backline to the forward line, the boys domination was on display yet again this weekend.

The theme of the day was long range goals! Milo nailed a ripper goal from the halfway line in the first half and backed it up with another. Milo and Mason were strong in defence controlling the first half onslaught. Saxon’s timing and ball control enabled him to score two first half goals from range and then another in the second half.

Mason’s corner kicking was outstanding allowing Xavier and Raff to capitalise and score each of their first goals. Xavier scored a double with a corker from outside the box in the second half. Ryan, Lachie and Tom helped with goal assists, displaying dazzling ball control and field runs on the wings, passing the ball through to Sebastian and Raff to score three of their five combined goals. Sebastian’s first touch of the football and control allowed him to score two great goals. Raff, sneaky as ever, capitalised on defensive errors from goal kicks scoring two of his three goals and displaying great cunning and skill.

Husky were a player down so Jack stepped up to take on his own team. He was in the thick of things in the second half playing hard and a lot of the ball in the second half. Jack made a remarkable, body-on-the-line save in defence when Sebastian let one launch. Milo and Lachie also volunteered to help the opposition players. Great work boys.

As always, Mark’s refereeing was biased (just kidding). He is awesome with the kids, teaching them skills and tips along the way. Jon, yet to be under pressure as a coach this season, rotated the boys through attack and defence and was encouraging and positive with his support and strategy. Damien looked sharp in his fluorescent vest. Not sure what his job was but he looked good doing it LOL.

U11A Black Round 4 Match Report

A warm and sunny morning for round 4 against Shoalhaven Heads Berry. Milton started strong showing solid defence and attack which was enough to secure nil all at half time. Good form from Milton continued in the second half and the teamwork displayed was outstanding. Milton were able to hold out Shoalhaven Heads Berry until five minutes to go. The final score 1-0 to Shoalhaven Heads Berry. A game of determination and sportsmanship from Milton. Thanks to coach Kelly for stepping in this week.

Ladies First Grade Round 3 Match Report

On Tuesday the 21st the First Grade Ladies made the trip up to North Nowra to play against Illaroo.

Even though it was the first game where it hasn’t rained, it was still a very cold night on the pitch with the temperature hitting 5 degrees while the girls were playing.

The game started strong with both sides having a few chances that were hit straight at the keepers. The Illaroo midfield were as classy as ever but were played out of the game thanks to the dynamic duo of Jenna Maciejewski and Karyn Coleman controlling the middle of the park.

The girls started to really get in their groove and put together some great passes which led up to a through ball for Dannielle Saunders who slotted away a goal on an impossible angle.

The back line stayed strong under the pressure that followed with the guidance of Lyndsay Freeman playing a high line. Even with it being her first game with the girls they clicked immediately into an impenetrable force denying any counter attacks giving keeper Caylie Wise very little work to do.

Before half time another play of beautiful football saw Dannielle Saunders put another powerful shot on goal that proved to hard for the Illaroo keeper to handle securing her second for the night.

After a really positive talk on the sideline the girls went straight back out ready to get the first win of the season. It seemed that coach Rod Kain’s famous shuttle and box runs proved their worth as the possession was heavily in our favour. Some really great work from Josie Rings saw her almost slot a few away, as well as Karyn Coleman putting on a few shots herself. Eventually Dannielle Saunders put another away for her well deserved hat trick.

Not long after Karyn Coleman was calm under pressure and slotted her first goal of the year (on her first game of the year) giving the girls the final result of 4-0.

After two heavy losses the girls should be extremely proud of how they gelled together. It was a really fantastic display of football and it seems they are going from strength to strength. Next week both Second Grade and First Grade are at home for the first time this year facing Callala which will be two very tough but great games.

Primary Girls Match Report 25/07/2020

How fortunate were the fifteen primary girls for their soccer game last Saturday morning when the sun shone over all the fields at Lighthouse Oval. It was great to see the Miniroos back in action and also some exciting competition matches.

The Primary Girls continue to show their improved skills and teamwork. Training last week focused on corner kicks, goal kicks, quick passes and stops as well as dribbling. Many thanks to the girls who assisted with each group.

Saturday’s match began with Reds taking early control and scoring the first goals. To their credit, the Blues fought back and with a team change, they managed to also score. Both sides demonstrated some pleasing team work and especially noteworthy was the increased confidence and persistence by the season’s new players. Thank you to Milla for swapping sides.

Aanya, Iluka, Anahera  and Aurelia - good position and cover

Charli, Georgie, Matilda and Olivia - persistent pressure and non stop energy

Amelia, Evie and Milla - constant attack and fearless defence.

Experienced primary girls, Abby, Jaya, Rosie and Skye - played their usual solid game with considered passes and great teamwork.

Well done to all players and thank you to referee Nigel and those who helped with removal of nets and poles.

Remember training is on Friday 4:00 and the focus will be on defence skills and goal keeping. Our game this Saturday is in the usual spot at the usual time of 10am

Soccer joke of the week:

How do we know soccer referees are happy?  Because they whistle while they work.
