In near perfect conditions at Lighthouse Oval last Saturday, the Primary Girls played a well fought game, with both sides never giving up. The first half of the game saw Rosie and Iluka in goals and both performed very well to keep the nets free.
Forwards for the Reds were: Georgie, Charli and Amelia, while for the Blues, playing in the forward positions were Milla, Aanya and Jaya.
Red team backs were Penny and Abby. Anahera and Skye played across the midfield.
Blue team backs were Alana and Evie. Matilda played across the midfield.
At half time, score was 0-0 and with changes to goalies, the girls eagerly ran on, keen to get their team ahead.
There were plenty of opportunities by both sides with shots hitting the post, going over the top, but mostly saved by clever goal-keeping. The Red team showed good control of the ball, consistent passing and clever covering and defence. The Blue team hassled the attackers, made long runs and covered their positions well.
The referee was kept fit with play see-sawing from one end to the other and the girls appreciated his tips during the game.
Finally, after non-stop pressure by both sides, the whistle was blown and the score remained nil all, a very fitting result.
Thank you to the referee and to those who helped with equipment after the game.
September games will see girls determining their preferred positions and depending on numbers, a two-week competition may be played.
The Primary Girls wish good luck to all Panther teams playing semis, finals and hopefully grand-finals over the coming weeks.
Remember training on Friday 4:00.
Joke for the week: Why was Cinderella so bad at Soccer?
Because she had a pumpkin for a coach!
