Lucky, lucky lucky after a night of rainfall, the Primary girls were able to play their game, in on/off drizzle, at Lighthouse Oval last Saturday, 15th August. Thirteen keen players trained on Friday afternoon and played a brief match in case Saturday's game didn't eventuate.
However, Saturday morning, saw fourteen girls, with spirit and enthusiasm, front up in doubtful weather, keen to run on the park.
Reds were Milla, Anahera, Abby, Rosie, Alana, Aurelia and Penny.
Blues were Georgie, Jaya, Charli, Iluka, Evie, Jasmine and Olivia.
Both teams ran on in response to the referee's whistle. Many thanks to Miffy for her work.
Blues went straight into attack, with Abby making a great save. Reds retaliated with a great shot, saved by Olivia. Not long after Reds scored their first goal, score 1 nil.
Blues then attacked with three shots at goal, all of which were unlucky not to go in.
Play see-sawed for a while, which then saw the girls removing their jumpers and hoodies after consistent effort by both teams. Play resumed and Blues quickly evened the score 1 all. Reds applied pressure and were then rewarded with three quick goals to lead 4-1.
Blues' 'Never say die' attitude saw a 'left footer' shot successful, then another shot found the back of the net bringing the scores to 4-3.
Five minutes remaining, last chance for Blues, and with the power of positive thinking, they applied the pressure and scored, making the game a tie! It was an exciting match for all and especially so as the girls were happy to have played a full match before the rain began to fall.
With just six games to their credit this very different season, the Primary Girls are to be commended for their skills and approach to the game and all are looking forward to the second half of the season.
Once again, many thanks to all those supporting the girls ... club officials, parents, spectators and those removing nets and posts after the game.
Training again on Friday at 4:00, focusing on defence. The game on Saturday is on the same field at 10am.
Joke for the week: Why did the soccer player bring string to her game?
So she could tie the score!
