U12 Black Round 4 Match Report

Another glorious winter day awaited us on the 25th July for the Milton Ulladulla Under 12 Girls Black against St Georges Basin. We had a full team for the first time this season so it was nice to have subs. The game started at a solid pace with our strikers Tilly and Ellie pressuring the Basin defence. The Panthers broke through early with a goal to our midfield general Emily. Another was added shortly after with a Basin own goal. Basin were not getting into the match as the Panthers team game was holding them at bay. As the first half went on the midfield of both teams started to get tired and the game opened up. Basin had some very skilled strikers and managed to claw a goal back before half time. Sophie, Claire and Kaitlyn were really solid in defence but were breached with some good play from Basin. 2-1 to the Panthers at half time was a fair reflection.

Straight after halftime Basin struck back with another goal to one of their strikers to even things up. Grace, Paige and Freya kept trying, while Frankie took a little whack but bounced back bravely. Despite some really good displays of football, the Blacks weren't able to keep the Basin strikers away from goal, and they scored two goals in quick succession. In the spirit that we have seen all season from these girls, they kept on at the opposition and Emily was able to get another goal with 5 mins to play. Lily in goals made a wonderful save and was able to keep us in the game, but we unfortunately ran out of time. The 4-3 defeat was a fantastic result against such a strong team. Every parent who saw the game was very proud today, despite the loss. Go Panthers!

Primary Girls Match Report 18/07/2020

Saturday 18th July was the 3rd match for the Primary Girls and sixteen young ladies enjoyed their close game with the play see-sawing between the two halves of the field.

With the extra players, there was some bunching and at times, loss of keeping position. However with twelve girls having their first season, this can be overlooked as their skills with the ball are extremely pleasing considering their lack of match experience. Friday’s training focus on kicking paid off with many good defence clearing  kicks and numerous shots at goals. Well done also for the improved runs to the ball and some great passes out to the wings.

Thanks to Alana, Jaya, Rosie and Abby who played last season and who willingly assisted their team mates at training and during the match. Well done also to Olivia and Abby who returned to play after slight injuries.

Amelia, Aurelia, Charli, Evie, Georgie, Iluka, Jaya and Olivia played in Red team while

Aanya, Abby, Alana, Amani, Anahera, Matilda, Penny and Rosie were Blues.

The teams played three time periods with switches of forwards, mids and backs each break. This gives the girls experience in each position and next week’s game will also see changes between left, centre and right sides of the park.

The coach is very pleased with the enthusiasm and effort all are making and each girl can be proud of herself. Thanks to our Referee and net removers and the supporters for their encouragement (and their social distancing). Hopefully the season will be able to continue if all take care. The latest updates re the Association rules can be found on the Club Facebook posts.

Remember Training at 4:00 on Friday. Our game is on the usual field at 10am this Saturday.

Soccer joke for the week: Why did the coach start a one-year-old on the team?

She was incredible at dribbling!

U9 White Round 3 Match Report

G'day Mason's Dad here. It was a great game for the boys today skipping out to a 4-0 lead at half time.  As I haven’t seen many games this year I was amazed at how well they are communicating and passing to each other. It was fantastic to watch, well done boys.  Huge credit to go to the coach and staff doing a great job with our boys. The end result was an 8-0 victory for the boys.  It was great to see just how far they have improved from last year.  Thank you and see you all at the next game.

U12 Black Round 3 Match Report

With a 9am start at Sussex the under 12 Girls Black arrived early and were pumped for the game on a beautiful day. School holidays had again left us short of players so Skye came up from the Primary Girls to complete the team. Thanks to Skye for filling in admirably- running, defending and attacking all day despite a considerable height difference with some of the opposition. We may call on your services again!

We started with a few positional changes this week. It took a little time to settle in to the formation and we went down a goal early to a good strike. The girls fought hard in an even contest and were unlucky not to have evened the score when half time was blown. Sophie martialled the defence and was again our rock. Claire and Kaitlyn cleared well, while the midfield of Paige, Skye and Grace were getting into the game with some great runs forward and moves back in defence.

The second half started off much the same as the first, with two evenly matched teams playing good football. Lily in goals kept the Panthers in the game with some nice saves. A sensational left foot strike from Ellie that nestled into the top right corner gave the team an extra spark. The team pushed for the winning goal and Emily managed it by popping the ball into the left corner of the goal with only a few minutes to go. A deserved 2-1 win for the Panthers against a competitive Sussex team.

U11A Black Round 3 Match Report

A crisp sunny morning at Lyrebird Park for round three against United. Milton started strong with a few early shots on goal and showed strong defence. Milton scored early in the first half with United quick to respond and equalise. The start of the second half saw Milton under pressure but they were able to turn this around and dominated possession. The team displayed some great defence and teamwork on the field as the second half progressed allowing Milton to come away with the win 4-1. Thanks to coach Paul and manager Kelly for their efforts with the team and we look forward to next weeks double header against Shoalhaven Heads Berry and St Georges Basin at the Lighthouse Oval.

U11A Black Round 2 Match Report

11th July Milton v Illaroo game kicked off with a great start, sunshine and both teams full of energy for a super game. First half was fast as both teams challenged each other on the field, Milton scoring the first goal of the game. The second half was just as fast with great ball skills displayed by the players. Milton scored the second and final goal of the match which was a team effort-defence and attack on point! What a display of determination and great sportsmanship they showed on the field!

Men First Grade Round 2 Match Report

The Milton first grade side this week travelled up the highway to take on Illaroo in round 2 of the Blackmore-Bolden Sheild.

After last weeks 1-1 draw against United the boys were super keen to get out in the paddock and get the 3 points.

With some heavy rain clouds looming the boys took to the field and it took a bit of time to find their groove as pass after pass failed to find their mark. After about 15 mins Illaroo managed to open the scoring with a shot that deflected off at least two people before slowly creeping in the corner.

Soon after the rain begun to fall...

Milton picked up there game and started controlling the ball especially coming from the back and midfield but unable to convert to any meaningful chances, until a quick throw in resulted in Brent Anderson beating about 5 defenders, including the keeper, to put away the equaliser. Unfortunately Marty Moran threw the throw in and damaged his shoulder in the process just before half time.

Milton 1 - Illaroo 1 Half time

Positive talk and encouragement at the half time team talk saw the boys stick to an altered game plan and really control the game, still unable to put away that go ahead goal.

After having a goal disallowed we went into a shell, Illaroo picking up their game and starting to dominate the field position. After numerous chances and back and forth soccer the game ended in an extremely wet 1-1 draw.

Kevin Castle was voted as the players player this week, some outstanding saves that kept us alive. A few at the very end of the game that looked certain goals, all after playing the reserve grade game also, well done big guy!

Special mention to Nick Mepasanee for his first grade debut this week, you didn’t look out of place at all. I also need to congratulate Bailey Law for making his first grade debut for the club. Both players will see plenty of first grade this season, well done boys!

Thank you to Blake Sommerville for again sitting bench and filling in the gaps, much appreciated. Also Simon Law, who like a fine wine, just gets better with age, almost snatching a goal at the end and proving a handful, thanks again

Next week (hopefully ) will see the Milton panthers return home for our local derby this season, to take on the ladder leading Sussex Seahawks.

Hope to see you all there Toddo

Primary Girls Match Report 11/07/2020

Ten Primary Girls enjoyed their second game of the season in brilliant Winter weather at Lighthouse Oval on Saturday 11th July. It was a close match with the Blues starting off the stronger and the Reds showing determination to bring the score to an 8-7 result.

The Reds were Anahera, Milla, Matilda, Penny and Amani. They showed good

covering and tackling defence, strong clearing kicks and follow through by the back line and clever turns, long runs, good stops and crosses by the forwards.

The Blues were Iluka, Georgie, Alana, Olivia and Aanya. The forwards made constant runs, clever turns around defence and good passes, while their backs ran to the ball, hassled the opposition and maintained strong position.

Last Friday's training focussed on passing and during Saturday's game, improved teamwork was evident by both sides. Thank you ex Primary Girl Matilda who assisted with training.

Each player has set a personal goal to improve a skill with the various skills including: left foot passes and kicks, footwork tricks, right foot kicks and passes, high kicks, defence skills and running to the ball.

Next Friday's training will focus on kicking.

Many thanks to the club for setting up the field and thanks to our referee Joel. Thanks also to the supporters and to the ex Primary girls now playing competition.

It was great to see Claire, Ellouise, Grace after their game.

There are now nineteen players registered and with the holidays finishing this coming week, coach Gwen is looking forward to seeing more girls for training and future matches. Thanks to all for their attention to the current guidelines during this unprecedented season.

U9 White Round 2 Match Report

Conditions were dry and pleasant at St Georges Basin for the game in Round 2. The Panthers were eager to get back on the field after blowing out the cobwebs last week in Round 1 with their convincing 7-0 win. There was a solid turn out despite it being school holidays with two reserves. The Panthers tackled cleanly and passed the ball well and were leading 4-0 at half time. Basin had a few shots at goal in the first half but the Panthers kept them out during the second half dominating possession and scoring a further 2 goals. Thank you to Coach Jon and assistant Coach Damian for your great work with the team and we look forward to next weeks game against St Georges Basin Dragons Black at Lighthouse Oval

U12 Black Round 2 Match Report

It was another glorious day up at Lighthouse Oval on Saturday when the under 12 Girls Black team faced off against Culburra. The Panthers took to the field short players due to school holidays. With only 7 girls the Panthers were fortunate to enlist the talent and skills of Tully from under 11s. Tully was in fine form, she showed great courage and fortitude- especially after taking a vicious ball to the face. Thank you Tully for your outstanding effort, it was greatly appreciated.

Once again Sophie and Claire were formidable in defence. Kaitlyn, in her debut, ran all game and had some fantastic kicks. Grace was strong in defence and calm in goals in the second half. Emily was in goals in the first half and was busy running up front in the second half. Tilly gave it her everything in the middle and up front. Elle put in a brilliant performance, running, attacking and challenging all game. Milton held the ball, maintained their positions and improved their passing. The final score was 1 all with our goal being scored by Sophie Whitmore. The team should be proud of their amazing efforts. All the girls gave all they had today, playing short. They were fantastic sports and should be proud of how well they played today! Well done Panthers!

U12 Black Round 1 Match Report

Nerves were high on Saturday as the MUFC Under 12 girls Black team arrived at Huskisson for their first ever match together.
With limited training but loads of enthusiasm the girls hit the field ready to face the Huskisson White team.
The games was evenly matched in the first half with the play going from end to end. Milton’s defence was solid with captain Sophie leading from the back. Claire and Grace were awesome, with very few balls getting past them. Tilly, Paige and Freya worked hard in the midfield- running hard and showing great skill. Emily and Frankie played well up front and showed they are a force to be reckoned with. Lily was clam and collected in goals. Her confidence in goals put her team at ease throughout the game.
After a close first half Milton finally found the back of the net with a great goal by Frankie on debut. This was followed by a second goal from Paige shortly after. Milton’s defence held strong and kept Huskisson out despite some serious attempts.
It was a wonderful team effort from all the girls. They demonstrated improving skills and all were fantastic sports! It was a game they should all be proud of. A huge thank you to James Martell for stepping in to coach the game and Jodie Donnelly for her organisation on the day.
The team now looks forward to taking on Culburra at home on Saturday.

Men First Grade Round 1 Match Report

The Milton Ulladulla first grade side started their season against Shoalhaven United on Saturday.

Having lost Blake McClusky to injury on Thursday night after a training mishap the lads were keen to put in a big performance and take out the win.

From the opening the whistle the game was fairly fast paced and united controlled the early goings An injury to Jarrod Murray after about 6 mins put a big dent in the team. Thank you to Josh Twitchen who came on after playing a full game in reserve grade to take his spot. Minutes later Rhys Wilson managed to get on the end of a free kick to head home the first goal of the season (which I admit I didn’t see as I was assisting Jarrod). The game went backwards and forwards till a very dubious penalty was awarded to United on the strike of half time. Kevin Castle done his best and got a touch to the ball but United equalised 1-1 into the half time break.

Second half started off without Rhys Wilson, who succumbed to a groin injury and the boys dug in very deep and withheld everything United threw at us. Milton held on at the end for a very deserved 1-1 draw.

Huge games from everyone in the team, Zach Pullinger was voted players player with special mention to Jack Begg and Chris Karacsonyi and Kevin Castle for some outstanding play. I would also like to thank Blake Sommerville and Joel Kemp for playing almost all of the second half and putting in a great effort.

We need a bit more commitment from our lower grades to help fill benches guys, 3rd grade need to help reserves and reserves should be all putting there hands up for first grade bench. This must be better next week.

Next week Milton Senior Men head up the highway to face Illaroo in what should be a cracker of a match up.

Cheers,

Toddo

Primary Girls Match Report 4/07/2020

PRIMARY GIRLS 2020 are BACK!

Saturday saw the Primary Girls rearing to play after their training on Friday afternoon. This season we have quite a few new players and all girls keenly engaged in the training drills despite the distancing required during the session. Stretching, jogging, sprinting were followed by various dribbling activities, passing and stopping and finally some kicking and shooting, which all girls enjoyed.

Saturday’s 10:00 am game was played on the Under 9’s field with the Reds and Blues both fielding seven players. Forward and Back lines swapped throughout the game and both teams were supported by a single midfielder. The long awaited first game of the 2020 season proved to be a high energy match with 110% commitment from the Ulladulla 14 Girls Panthers (white) against the Shoalhaven United Bears in Nowra on Saturday.

Sporting three new starters who looked like they’d played before, Charlotte, Flo and Zoe, the entire team gelled, attacked and defended with the vigour and tenaciousness of Sydney FC.

Brie, Lauren and Luca defended with the big kicks. Karla and Brodie flew like the wind and skilfully attacked the goal. Sophie ran onto the ball well. Newcomers Charlotte, Flo and Zoe attacked and defended rigorously. Georgia tackled intensely. Elsie covered midfield brilliantly. Goalies Lulu got air and Luca some spectacular saves.

Score: 4 Shoalhaven United Bears to 2 Ulladulla Panthers White.

Sensational goals: Karla and Charlotte

U11 A Black Round 1 Match Report

The weather was perfect for an early kick off on Saturday as the MUFC under 11A Black Panthers took on St George's Basin. The team was excited to be back on the field after weeks of isolation, home learning and just a few training sessions. Everyone remembered all they had been previously taught and went straight to work passing the ball beautifully, finding space and supporting each other on the field. It was a close match with both teams showing great determination and skill. The game was drawn at 2 all when Basin put away a goal with just minutes to spare. The final score being 3-2 Basin's way. The Panthers played exceptionally well and all should be proud of their efforts. They demonstrated impressive skill, speed, defence and most importantly all were great sports! A huge thank you to coach Paul and manager Kelly for all of their hard work. We look forward now to next weeks's game against Illaroo at Lighthouse Oval.

Football returned for Milton u15s Black last night and what a night it was, very strong performances from Braydon and Isaac in defence with Jack and Kyan helping out to keep a clean sheet for the night with a fine keeping display from Riley when called upon.

The midfielders Will , Hayden, Josiah , Sam , Wade and Andre running the show all night with an awesome display of passing and tackling with Sam and Josiah getting in crosses all night for James and Finn to grab their first goals of the season with Finn scoring a spectacular hat trick to lead the way for golden boot.

Well done guys lets welcome Shoalhaven next Wednesday with an even stronger performance.

From 3 very proud coaches

Chris, Jonny , & Pono.

U11 Game against Forest Rangers FC

After a wet week game day arrived and the sun came out to play. The under 11’s Milton panthers were pumped and ready to face it of with the Forest rangers.

With limited training it was impressive to see the boys passing the ball around like it was the end of the season. It finished up at one all draw, with the Forest Rangers providing incredible competence and high intensity right though out the match.

The boys and girls from both teams should be very proud of themselves as it was an entertaining game with moments of impressive sportsmanship from both teams.

Senior Men Defend the Henk Ruyg Cup

Sunday 1st of March saw the Milton Ulladulla Panthers travel to Shoalhaven Heads for the annual pre season tournament, The Henk Ryug Cup. Milton headed into the day being the defending champions looking to win the Cup for the second consecutive year with a mix of some first grade prowess, an old head to plug any gaps and some youthfulness.

Greeted by blazing sun we begun our title defence against the hosts, Shoalhaven Heads. After going behind early, they managed to level up the match after Ivan was brought down in the box to earn a penalty, which he slotted away. The score finished 1-1. Playing a new formation with players trying new things it was a good solid start and the boys were hyped up for the next match.

With only 35mins between each match there wasn’t much time to rest and we were soon up again, this time against Husky. The boys started the game with enthusiasm and were all over Husky early. They settled and wrestled momentum back and were looking ominous for a goal but was denied with some brilliant work from keeer Kev Castle who sure looks the goods this year! Brent Anderson fired a shot from well outside the box to find the top left corner to give us a 1-0 lead. Kev Castle again kept us in the game after some lazy defending and we held on for the 1-0 win.

Up next was United. Our team was mixed around for this one and the young guys were really showing the other boys how it was done as they dominated the game from the get go. Chances started flowing and finally with Brent Anderson again scoring to give us the late 1-0 win.

After 3 games we were on top of the table and improving with every game, most of all the boys were gelling and enjoying themselves.

Game 4 was up against Illaroo. We knew a win would have all but sealed our spot in the big dance at the end of the day, so we kept the youthful team to start and they again dominated from the get go with Simon Law and coach Daniel Todeschini causing havoc up front. We decided to give the other boys a go and sure enough Jarrod Murray managed to find his way to the goals and finish to give us a 1-0 lead. A sloppy late goal gave Illaroo a 1-1 draw.

Still undefeated heading into the final clash which was against Bomaderry. Lose this and we go home, win and we play the final. Bomaderry was our best game yet and we played some very nice football. The tired legs proved too much at stages but all in all we played some neat football before Brent Anderson managed to score another goal from outside the box. We are expecting plenty more of that this year mate! Bomaderry were never really in the match and we managed to score a second through Jarrod Murray to seal a 2-0 win and a spot in the final.

The final, Milton v Husky. Reining Henk Ruyg Cup winners against the reining competition champions. Both sides were out on their feet, and so the resulting game was very slow paced. It felt like the sun was at its hottest at this point. The boys really dug in and tried their best but had a dodgy penalty decision go against us. Kev Castle tried his best but Husky snuck home the goal. For all the trying and attack we threw at Husky it just wasn’t to be our day. The gane ened in a 1-0 loss.

Congrats to the boys from Husky and thanks to the Shoalhaven Heads/Berry FC for putting on the day. The boys that travelled up on the day, thankyou! It was pleasing to see us play some good soccer but also enjoy each other’s company and enjoy the day. I was particularly impressed with the young boys; Bailey Lay, Jack Rutland, Cordale Bakouris, Micah Boye and Jack Begg; who really stepped up, held their own and were a big part of the reason we played in the final. Finally, thanks to old man Lawsy (Simon) for filling the gaps and helping me out on the day. Looking forward to Saturday where hopefully we can get a big crowd to watch a lot of great soccer and raise some money for a good cause.
