Another glorious winter day awaited us on the 25th July for the Milton Ulladulla Under 12 Girls Black against St Georges Basin. We had a full team for the first time this season so it was nice to have subs. The game started at a solid pace with our strikers Tilly and Ellie pressuring the Basin defence. The Panthers broke through early with a goal to our midfield general Emily. Another was added shortly after with a Basin own goal. Basin were not getting into the match as the Panthers team game was holding them at bay. As the first half went on the midfield of both teams started to get tired and the game opened up. Basin had some very skilled strikers and managed to claw a goal back before half time. Sophie, Claire and Kaitlyn were really solid in defence but were breached with some good play from Basin. 2-1 to the Panthers at half time was a fair reflection.
Straight after halftime Basin struck back with another goal to one of their strikers to even things up. Grace, Paige and Freya kept trying, while Frankie took a little whack but bounced back bravely. Despite some really good displays of football, the Blacks weren't able to keep the Basin strikers away from goal, and they scored two goals in quick succession. In the spirit that we have seen all season from these girls, they kept on at the opposition and Emily was able to get another goal with 5 mins to play. Lily in goals made a wonderful save and was able to keep us in the game, but we unfortunately ran out of time. The 4-3 defeat was a fantastic result against such a strong team. Every parent who saw the game was very proud today, despite the loss. Go Panthers!
